WATER HYACINTH

A study should be carried out on the retention pond in Taman Lintang Makmur, Sungai Siput which has been completely covered with water hyacinth. Water hyacinth affect the ecology but its has industrial utilization too.

Water hyacinth is often problematic in man-made ponds if uncontrolled, but can also provide a food source for gold fish, keep water clean and help to provide oxygen to man-made ponds.

The water hyacinth dramatically impacts water flow, blocks sunlight for aquatic plants and starves the water of oxygen. Where the weed is prolific, there is a general increase in several diseases, as the weed creates excellent breeding areas for mosquitoes and other insects.

There are other uses being found for the abundant plants e.g. cattle food and bio-gas production. Recently, they have begun to be used in wastewater treatment due to their fast growth and ability to tolerate high levels of pollution. Parts of the plant are also used in the production of traditional handicrafts in Southeast Asia.

Since the plant has abundant nitrogen content, it can be used a substrate for bio-gas production and the sludge obtained from the bio-gas. However, due to easy accumulation of toxins, the plant is prone to get contaminated when used as feed.

Sungai Siput (U) is a small town in Perak. It is an unknown town. 1948 set a new history of Malaya and Sungai Siput (U) became central of attention worldwide. The killing of 3 English planters, force the British to declared Malayan Emergency. Sungai Siput (U) became one of the main operation centre for the Communist Party of Malaya. Sungai Siput was repeated mentioned in books related to Malayan Emergency or Insurgency e.g. The Jungle is Natural, Nation Before Self and Chin Peng - My Side of History.

Younger generation do not know the Ginger Operation. The older generation has forgotten the pass. Gone are the days where curfew on and off. Sungai Siput has been classified as 'black' area for security reasons for many years till 1980's. Nowadays, people in Sungai Siput lives peacefully and harmony.

Not many people knows that Sungai Siput (U) was closely related to the Malaya independence! The years has passed, no one seems to remembered Tun V.T. Sambanthan, Tun Leong Yew Koh and Tok Pangku Hamid who played an essential role for an independence Malaya.

Tun V.T. Sambanthan, once the National President of MIC was the Sungai Siput Member of Parliament and a Minister. He played a key role for Malaya independence. He was born in Sungai Siput (U).

Tun Leong Yew Koh, the first Governor of Malacca was a founding member of MCA. He was the Vice President of MCA during the pre and post independence era. He was born in Salak North.

Tok Pangku Hamid was the first and the only Senator from Sungai Siput (as at to date). He is an "orang asal" living in Lintang. He is the first "orang asal" and the first Sungai Siput people appointed as Senator.

Apart from them, there are many more politicians from Sungai Siput who hold key Government post.

There are many top civil servants are from Sungai Siput too e.g. the Director General of National Landscape Department, the Director of Perak State Land and Mineral Department and a Special Assistant to Tun Mahathir.

PDRM SUNGAI SIPUT (U)

SUNGAI SIPUT (U) is known in Malaysia history. It is a place where 3 'mat salleh' were killed. Immediately after the killing, The Malayan Emergency was declared by the High Commissioner of Malaya in 1948. Sungai Siput (U) was classified as "black" area then.

However, with the efforts of a few well-known politicians, Sungai Siput (U) has transform from a 'cowboy' town to a bigger town now.

The latest additions to Sungai Siput (U) is the new police quarters located opposite Jalong New Village. There are 500 policemen in Sungai Siput contingent currently. Very soon the new district police office will be in operation.

SUNGAI SIPUT WATERFRONT -the world 1st. waterfront without water!

This retention pond located in the centre of Taman Lintang Makmur, just behind Sungai Siput TF Value Mart. The area is about 5 acre. The developer of Sungai Siput Business Centre made use of the charm of this pond as their selling point i.e. it named Sungai Siput Waterfront Business Centre! The developer promised that the pond will be turn into a recreation centre; however, now it looks like a field! Sungai Siput Waterfront is the world 1st. waterfront without water now!

Many people fishing in this pond previously. Some netting fish too. The Indonesian from the nearby construction site catches eels. The irresponsible fishing maniac will just trough the small fishes on to the ground rather than put it back to the pond.

Almost a year ago, the water hyacinth colonised the whole pond.

I have seek opinions and advises from professionals and NGOs' e.g WWF Malaysia and MNS Perak. I was told that the water hyacinth will endanger the ecology system. Ecologically speaking, this species is considered invasive and is regarded as pest. It prevent other semi aquatic plants to co-generate and add biodiversity.

It blocks sunlight and oxygen from water, thus decrease healthy water chemistry. The deprived sunlight contain less aquatic life and prevent the amount of dissolved oxygen that the dwelling organisms will be affected, thus less food for fishes.This noxious weed will definitely affect the retention pond function as it slow down water movement and flows, the volume of water hold will be lesser, its block the water outlets and inlets.

The location of the pond in the middle of a business centre and housing area, it may cause danger for children. Children and sometimes adults will think it is a field rather than a pond.

Clearing the water hyacinth, the ecology of the pond will be stabilise and it will be a thriving place for wetland plants and animals. Over time after removal of the weeds, the pond will settle and stabilise its ecosystem. Lotus shall be plant as the avifauna, insects and other wildlife population will increase as the plant give flowers, good cover and stratification. The flower attract dragonflies and damselflies. The larva of these insects will eat up mosquitoes larvae. This will increased the biodiversity and well being of the pond.

My MNS Perak friend suggested to turn the pond into a beautiful wetland park for education and recreation with landscraping and architecture element incorporated. Its amazing! I hope it will come through.

I will be writing to the Kuala Kangsar Municipality Council and Drainage and Irrigation Department to clean up the retention pond and turn it into a better place for educational purposes.

'ORANG ASAL' VILLAGE - JALONG TINGGI

As usual, I made frequent visit to Jalong Tinggi 'orang asal' settlement. There are 10 settlements in this region. I brought along old clothing, toys and bags for the young 'orang asal'.

Upon seeing my car going into the village, all the children rush toward me! They are excited as they know I am going to give them something. Children likes toys, any contribution in the future?

Sungai Siput Waterfront Commercial Centre offer an opportunity for entrepreneur as it surrounded by residential areas. TF Hypermat has already established it self here for almost 3 years. More and more shops are operating. There are more than 100 shop lots. A taxi and bus station has been identified nearby.

The development of this commercial area has brought the market values of the surrounding houses up. Its is good for the house owner but it also cause problems! The poor drainage structure causes flash flood to the nearby houses.

Most of the causes has been identified previously in this blog. Lately, I found something that may be the additional factor.

The developer has blocked the drain! The original drain size is 4 feet x 4 feet. The drain was blocked due to construction of an entrance to the developer's old sales office. Only a 1 feet diameter culvert was placed into the drain. Reliable source informed me that it should be a temporary entrance but it already there for more than 2 years! This junction is not maintain as few pot holes seen! Why the blockage is not clear till today? Who allow and approve to built the entrance? Who should remove the blockage?

A brick block was seen in the drain! It should be from the road. Is it fell accidentlly or by purpose? However, why it is not taken up? Whose responsibility? The developer or municipalities?

These clearly shown that the municipalities council officers and members of the council are not doing their job! Action should have been taken as the blockage may cause problems to the public at large especially those residents around. Well, I have to write to the municipalities council again ....

FLASH FLOOD IN TAMAN LINTANG MAKMUR, SUNGAI SIPUT (U)

Taman Lintang Makmur is a newly developed housing estate in Sungai Siput. There are about 800 houses, 100 shop lots and 2 blocks of 4 storey apartments. 50 semi-D / bungalows are in progress. A new bus and taxi station will be station here. TF Hypermart already established itself. The main road will be widen. It is a well planned and developed area!

However, the worst has yet to come. There will be nightmare for those staying around soon! WHY?

For the past few months of heavy rain, the main entrance has been flooded. Recently, a concrete wall falls due to underground water and erosion. It affected part of the residential area. Why these happen?

I have done a physical verification ... the drainage system is poorly designed and constructed. The size of the drainage could not hold the volume of water from the 2 adjacent streams. The drain was constructed such way that the lower ground is shallow and the higher ground is deeper. As water flow downstream; the water spilled out and flooded the main road.

This has caused difficulties for the residents, road users and damaged the road. As no proper drainage, underground water caused erosion. The 1.5 m concrete wall was partly brought down and almost flooded the surrounding houses.

HANDLING OVER MULTI-COURT MANAGEMENT IN SUNGAI SIPUT

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has decided to built 2 multi-courts in each state assembly since 2008. The first multi-court was built in Kampung Muhibbah in 2008. The multi-courts consists of 3 courts i.e. FUTSAL, basketball and sepak takraw.

Today, the office of Sungai Siput Youth and Sports has hand over 6 multi-courts through out Sungai Siput to youth and sports organizations registered with the ministry. The events was held in Kampung Jaya Setia and officiated by Y.B. Dato' Haji Ahamed bin Pakeh Adam, Lintang State Assemblyman.

KSK Jalong has been given the job to manage the Community Sport Complex' multi court. The multi-court is a public facility, therefore it should be managed efficiently and effectively. The court usage has to be co-ordinated to ensure that all community will have a chance to used it. The usage during day time might be f.o.c. [no instruction yet so far] but minimum fees will be charged for night usage.

Apart from paying electricity bill and co-ordinate usage, the court's conditions and its surrounding should be well maintain.

Lastly, KSK Jalong hope that the Ministry can allocate fund to repair and upgrade the 1st phase multi court in Kg. Muhibbah and hand it over to other youth and sports organizations.

FLASH FLOOD IN SUNGAI SIPUT

The river, drainage and stream could not hold the volume of water after few hours of rain! Flash flood in a few places around Sungai Siput (U), Perak. I am focusing on Taman Muhibbah Jaya since I am the RT chairman here. It occurred at the junction of Jalan Dato' See Khoon Lim and Jalan Industri Ringan.

Flood occurred previously. The local community association has wrote to the previous Member of Parliament, State Assemblyman, Kuala Kangsar Municipality Council and related government agencies. With the assistance from the ex MP, Dato' Seri Samy Vellu and ex-assemblyman, Dato' Chang Ko Youn, the drainage systems has been upgraded in 2008. All ends up well. No flash flood till recently.

Calls has been made to the councillors, nobody reply or take our calls! Calls made to current assemblywomen, same ... no reaction. I was told that the assemblywomen with 2 BN councillors have visited the place about a month ago but no action taken! If preventive actions taken by the state assemblywomen and the 2 councillors, the flash flood will not occurred!

The causes of flash flood are debris along the drainage and streams not clear, clogged drainage, broken drains not repair and retention pond not functioning. Verbal and written complaints has been made. I have wrote in the blog before.

This has proven that the local government is not functioning effectively, inefficient and unprofessional!

SENAM CERGAS PERDANA SUNGAI SIPUT

Sunday 13.6.2010, Pejabat Belia dan Sukan Sungai Siput with the co-operation of Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong and Kelab-Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru, Sungai Siput had organised the Senam Cergas Perdana in Rimba Panjang N/V.

This is the first league as Pejabat Belia dan Sukan Sungai Siput plans to make in a monthly event. This event will be organise in kampungs, housing schemes other than new villages in Sungai Siput. All Sungai Siput folks are welcome to join irrespective of race, gender, religious believe and politic background.

The main objective is to promote healthy and fitness awareness to the community. Currently, KSK Jalong has organised the weekly senam cergas in Taman Muhibbah Jaya. This has been carried out 3 years ago. KSK Jalong is planning to include health check, health talk and healthy food for the members, participants and the public at large.

IRRESPONSIBLE LOCAL COUNCIL

Persatuan Kebajikan dan Komuniti Muhibbah, Sungai Siput, a registered organization and KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah, Sungai Siput represented the neighbourhood of Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2B, Taman Muhibbah Aman, Taman Muhibbah Jaya and Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2 were dissatisfied with Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar.

The grasses in these populated housing areas has grown higher than the ankle. Children could not play in the playgrounds and most of the equipments has been damaged. The designated playground in Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2B, Taman Muhibbah Aman, Taman Muhibbah Jaya and Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2 has been overgrown by grasses. Mosquitoes, snakes and other insects were found there.

Numerous complaints has been made either verbally or written officially to Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar jointly by both organizations; however no actions taken till to day.

Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar will charge RM4 as penalty for late payment on half yearly assessment. A red notice will be issued to the respective residence. Can the residence charged Majlis Perbandaran for the late actions on grass cutting and cabbage collection? Can the residence take action on Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar where no equipments available in the playground?

Few councillors seems to take the cheap publicity to advertised themselves in the mass-media as they are the hardworking one! Resurface road, build new road-humps bla, bla, bla .... etc..... but problems like overgrown grass, clogged drainage, street lights etc were not attended.

INFORMAL SKILL TRAINING PROGRAMME

Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department has organised an informal skill training programme on 8 - 10 May, 2010 in Kompleks Sukan Komuniti Sungai Siput. This programme has been carried out for few years by the Perak State Youth and Sports Department in Ipoh but only recently its started in Sungai Siput on En. Amerr Izzuddin, the officer's initiative.

The skill choosed by Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department is cement-ferro. Most of us do not know what is cement-ferro but we has been seeing it and utilising it almost every days. It can be seen in parks and some at home. Cement-ferro is to build table, chairs, bins, fence and others with cement.

Its needs creativeness and innovative to built the items. It looks very nice and beautiful. This skill can be entrepreneurizing. The items can be sold to interested parties. With a small amount of money spent, you can earn some extra money ....

The 2010 Chinese New Year Open House was held in Kampung Baru Rimba Panjang at 10.30 a.m. by KELAB RAKAN MUDA WAWASAN DESA KAMPUNG BARU, SUNGAI SIPUT on 18 February, 2010 (Thursday) .

The event was officiated by the Deputy Director, Rakan Muda Unit in the Perak State Youth and Sports Department, En. Munir Aliyazak. The State Assemblyman of Lintang, YB Datuk Haji Ahamed Faked Adam was represented by Cikgu Jaafar, the Kelab Rakan Muda Parlimen Sungai Siput was represented by Meor Farhan and Manivaran represented the Majlis Belia Daerah Sungai Siput.

Ang-pau was given to 45 down-symdrom children from the Persatuan Orang Istimewa Sungai Siput, Jalan Lintang.

The registration certificate for the 5 Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru i.e. Sungei Buloh N/V, Simpang Jalong N/V, Rimba Panjang N/V, Lintang N/V and Lasah N/V were given to the respective pro-term chairman by En Munir Aliyazak.

YB Datuk Haji Ahamed hope that Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru can be form in Salak N/V and Salak Utara. He thanks Mr Ng Kah Choong, the advisor for the Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru for assisting in forming the clubs in Lasah and Lintang new vilage. The forming of these clubs is a good move to enhance interaction among the youngs irrespective of races.

En Munir Aliyazak hope more clubs can be formed. The Ministry is planning to form a council for the Kelab Rakan Muda. This council will eventually affialite with Malaysia Youth Council and respecive State and District Council. The setting up of cyber centre in each Parliament constituency help to promote ICT for the youth and he hope the youth will fully utilized the centre. The cyber centre can be turn into youth activity centre. Here, the multi racial youth can interact within and between each other.

Both VIPs' appreciate this effort whereby youth from all races can mixed and interact. Both hope more multi-racial activity can be organise in the future.

YOUTH CYBER CENTRE

A youth cyber centre equipped with 10 computers has been set-up in Kompleks Sukan Komuniti Sungai Siput, Happy Garden recently. It is a facility under the Rakan Muda Siber programme.

Currently the centre is operating from 10 am - 6 pm daily inclusive of public holidays, Saturday and Sunday. All youth registered as Kelab Rakan Muda member can use the facilities for free with terms and conditions set by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Canvass as temporary measure

After 4 years of promised, Indah Water Konsortium had started to contruct the brick wall in the Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2B plant recently. Acting upon complaints from the surrounding residents, Persatuan Kebajikan dan Komuniti Muhibbah, Sungai Siput had wrote officially to Indah Water.

As temporary measure, IWK had covered the surrounding with canvass since 2006. IWK promised to contruct the brick wall in 2007, however, it has been delay till lately. Although it is late, Persatuan Kebajikan dan Komuniti Muhibbah, Sungai Siput glad that IWK fulfilled its promises by constructing the wall at the cost of RM74,000.

Persatuan Kebajikan dan Komuniti Muhibbah, Sungai Siput was told that; once the other motor in operation soon, most of the complaints will be cleared. Currently only one motor functioning as the other is under repair.

The Taman Muhibbah Jaya plant will in progress of upgrading currently. After the maintenance works completed, both plants together with the one in Taman Muhibbah Aman will be able to served the residents more efficiently.

The Kelab-Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru Sungai Siput with the co-operation of Pejabat Belia dan Sukan Daerah Sungai Siput has organised the ORGANISATION MANAGEMENT workshop for the newly formed Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru Sungai Siput members recently. The workshop was held in Puteri Pangkor Resort on 21- 23.11.2009. 31 members participated.

I taught them on how to prepare working papers. Later I leads them to analyse he workshop's relevancy and prepared them to handle open and closeing ceremonies. Puan Zuraini, the former Executive Secretary for Perak State Youth Council guide the participants on how to conduct meeting, preparing meeting's minute and writing official letters. En. Razif the Penggerak Rakan Muda conducting the outdoor activities e.g. explorace and morning exercise.

The participants complained that the schedule is too tight. They hardly going for a swim instead they have been swiming everyday for almost an hour! No doubt that they have to wake up early but it is their fault for sneaking out late night. However, the participants were very co-operative and we have fun time together.

There were many complaints on the foods and rooms. Most of us have difficulty with the room door. The choices of food were limited and were controlled by the resort management. Ms Abby, the officer have though time with the resort management on these problems. Anyway, a decision has been made that this the first and the last in this resort!

Kelab-Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru Sungai Siput and Kelab Rakan Muda Sungai Siput with the co-operation of Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department had organized the Street Happening program for Sungai Siput youth aged between 15 – 25 years on Sunday, 15 November, 2009 in Sungai Buloh N/V basketball court from 10 am – 10.30 pm.

The Street Happening program consists of Mix Dance and Battle of the Band competitions. 7 teams took part in the Mix Dance competition while 5 for Battle of the Band. This program had attracted multi-racial youngsters. More 30 Chinese youth signed up as Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru member.

He believe that Mix Dance is an art and denied that it is unhealthy. This program is suitable for the energise and super active youth.

RAKAN MUDA KARAOKE COMPETITION

The Kelab-Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru, Sungai Siput has organised the Sungai Siput Rakan Muda Karaoke Competition on 12 September, 2009. This event was held in Simpang Jalong New Village basketball court. 20 participants aged 15 - 25 took part.

This is the second time the Kelab held activities in new village. The purpose to hold activities in new village is to promote the Kelab Rakan Muda Kampung Baru and its programmes. It is a strategy to attract young Chinese to join the Kelab and its activities.

Since the first activity held in Sungei Buloh New Village recently, I have received many phone calls from the youth. They are interested on Rakan Muda programmes. This is a good sign that Kelab Rakan Muda is receiving attention from the youth. I am confident that with the right approach and promotion, Kelab Rakan Muda can made a breakthrough into the new villages.

At 9.00 a.m., the delegates paid a courtesy call to the Consulate General office situated in the 4th floor of Hotel Sakura. Tuan Roseli, the Consulate General and his staff were there to welcome us. There are 5 Malaysian and 7 Chinese staff in the Consulate office. We spent about an hour there.

We left the Consulate at 10 a.m. to Loisewan again for last minute shopping. Most of the delegates have not buy the things and souvenirs they need. We spent 2 hours here and by 12 p.m., we left to the airport. We arrived early. We hanging around and continuing shopping with the remaining RMB in the pocket. Off course the price here is expensive than Loisewan.

I have to managed the check in for the delegates. Hang Tuah Din bought a remote control helicopter for his son. He wonder that the item can be hand carry. I suggested that he put the item in the luggage. He did.

We came with 25 luggage and returned with 38 luggage! While I am busy sorting the check in with Ansor, Rozidi and Mona started the disturbance. They did last minute shopping and wanted to hand carry their goods. I could not control my anger and busted.

After the sorting complete, I advise them to put it with the luggage with "fragile" sticker.

Everything done and departed from Kunming via flight TG613 at 3:20 p.m. and reached Swvarnabhumi Airport at 5.30p.m. The connecting flight to Penang (flight TG 421) was at 6:10 p.m. From the previous experience in Swarnabhumi Airport, all the delegates were more alert this time. No more shopping and sight seeing. Straight to the departure gate. We reached Penang Airport at 9 p.m. The bus already waiting and we departed back to Ipoh immediately.

Halim requested 'nasi kandar' as he cannot stand without spices for the past few days. We stopped in Bukit Merah R n R and guess what....????? Most of the delegates ate laksa and nasi lemak!

DYNAMIC YUNNAN

Peacock dance

The Consulate General suggested that we go for Dynamic Yunnan show in Kunming Assembly Hall. The show start at 8 pm daily and entrance fees is RMB90.

I witnessed a live performance of "Dynamic Yunnan". It was the best live show I have ever seen, absolutely brilliant. I was informed that the large-scale dance drama "Dynamic Yunnan" has been an outstanding innovation on the Chinese stage in recent years. Dynamically incorporating traditional beauty and modern flavors with a reintegration of the most original and rustic dance elements of Yunnan, the programme breathes new life into Yunnan culture.

Primitive, unsophisticated folk dances and a fresh artistic concept converge in the programme, giving audiences a unique "Yunnan Impression." Sixty-two drums and 120 masks of strong ethnic characteristics are incorporated in the performance. Other props, like a "praying stone" and bull's head are taken from real life. A 70-percent cast of ethnic-minority performers and enigmatic lighting and stage effects also add to the programme's appeal. It shows the different dances of the minority tribes in Yunnan Province. It is both vibrant and colourful as the dancers energetically perform in their traditional dress.

One of the dancers performs the peacock dance. She had very nimble limbs as she imitated the movement of the peacock. To the Dai people, the peacock is a symbol of love called "sunbird". Yang Liping, the creator has created a series of dances about peacocks. In the epilogue of Dynamic Yunnan, Yang dynamically integrates her solo dance and group dance for the first time. The sound and lighting effects add great appeal to the performance.

The dance here is also characterized with its unadorned manner.

PERAK YOUTH FRIENDSHIP TOUR - KUNMING, YUNNAN

Day 2 (18 August, 2009)

This is our second day in Kunming. The weather here is almost like Perak. The delegates do not face any problem with the weather. It is drizzling in the morning. The delegation left for Loisewan after breakfast. As Loisewan will open at 9.30 a.m., the delegation dropped by the Lake Park in Kunming City.

Old folks were practising varies 'tai chi'. Some were doing line dancing. These were seldom seen back in Malaysia. The younger folks jog around the lake. Some delegates managed to buy Chinese calligraphy drawing from a lady. The lady having tough time negotiate with the delegates; however, she managed to sold a few pieces.

The delegation reached Loisewan at about 10 a.m. Wooohhhh!!! It is a big warehouse type shopping area. It is not a shopping complex, just shops but the area is very very wide. We spent 3 hours here. The delegates went for the shopping spree!

I just went window shopping and brought a few glass souvenirs for the VIPs' back home. Ansor and I sat at a coffee shop for almost a hour as we were too tired to walk.

All delegates back to the bus at 1 pm sharp and we went for lunch. En. Zaman leads the way to a Muslim restaurant - Qingzhen Xiaojinniu Shifu.

We had a warmth welcome by the manager, Mr Chen Si Yu. He is a good friend of En. Zaman. En. Zaman introduced us to him. Mr Chen came from Quangdong Province. He married a Muslim lady from Xinjiang thus converted to Muslim. He spoke Cantonese with me and he said that he is very happy as I am the only one that can speak Cantonese. He hardly speak a word of Cantonese since moving to Kunming a few years ago.

He introduced many local cuisine for the delegates. We had a 12 dishes lunch! It is not expensive either, only RMB320! We have fish, prawn, mutton, beef, chicken and vegetables with a soup. After lunch, we have a photography session in front of the restaurant on Mr. Chen's request then we proceed to a mosque nearby.

Hassan was shocked when he found his beg missing after praying! He almost cry as all his belongings and important documents are in it - passport, i.c., money and ATM cards! He begged an old lady sitting near the place where he passed his beg to somebody! He said that he taught that it is one of the delegate. After all .... nothing happen! Hassan passed his beg to Perviaz Akhtar and Perviaz went to purchase some groceries in the nearby shops at that time ....... Everyone laughing after the excitement!

En. Zaman brought us to another shopping area said to have branded begs sold at lower price. We all went and we were joined by Pn. Kathijah, the wife of the Consulate General who is a Chinese from Tapah.

Another incident happened here! Part of the delegates went to the 27th floor where the shop located. Suddenly the lift stopped at 23rd floor for about an hour. A. Sabramani fainted as lack of ventilation. An ambulance was called by the building management, however, all ends well!

After the delegation spent about an hour here buying nothing, we decided to go back to hotel. As the coordinator, I have to stopped the taxi as the bus have already left since there is no parking space. I managed to stopped a few taxis to ferry the delegates back to hotel.

The time almost 5 pm, all taxis fulled. Hang Tuah Din suggested that we walked back as it was not very far....about 3 km? We walked..... and passed through Kunming Assembly Hall, Kunming City Hall, Yunnan Provincial Office, Yunnan Province Communist Party Headquarter and few shopping malls.

Along the way, we saw old folks playing cards and workers walking back after office. The roads were busy with buses, taxis, cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

No dinner today as most of the delegates had gone out shopping. Only 6 of us and I suggested that we have dinner in Marco Polo restaurant, the hotel's restaurant. Hang Tuah Din and others agreed. Since we are not hungry yet, we ordered fruits, creamed soup with buns. Later, 9 others came to joined us.

I was informed that there is a Thai restaurant at 18 floor earlier. Ansor and I went to see if the restaurant provide halal food and the answer is what we guessed .... NO!

I was told that some went to massage and karaoke that night. I just stay back in my room and enjoy my reading.....!

KELAB RAKAN MUDA WAWASAN DESA KAMPUNG BARU

The Ministry of Youth and Sports planned to form Kelab Rakan Muda Wawasan Desa Kampung Baru in all new villages nationwide. This is part of the upgrade plans for the Rakan Muda programme which has been carried out more than 10 years ago. I am part of the Rakan Muda since the porgramme was launched at the time that I have actively involved in youth movements.

I was called to assists Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department to form the club in 7 villages around Sungai Siput a few months ago. I managed to formed 5 clubs and were launched on 23 August, 2009 in Sungai Buloh New Village. The clubs are Sungei Buloh N/V, Simpang Jalong N/V, Rimba Panjang N/V, Lintang N/V and Lasah N/V.

The Advisor to Perak State Menteri Besar, Dato' Chang Ko Youn officiated the launched. En. Shahrin from the State Youth and Sports Department attended the launching together with Ms. Abby from Sungai Siput office. The 'penggerak Rakan Muda' for Sungai Siput and committee members of Kelab Rakan Muda Sungai Siput were there too.

In conjunction with the launching, a 3 On 3 basketball tournament was held. 16 teams took part. This tourney is open for all youth in Sungai Siput age between 15 - 25. The responds are good. As this is the first time, the Kelab organised the tourney; there are weaknesses which should be overcome in the next event. The tournament is a success.

PERAK YOUTH FRIENDSHIP TOUR - KUNMING, YUNNAN

Day 1 (17 Aug. 2009)

Today is the first day the Perak youth delegation in Kunming. With the assistance from the Malaysia Consulate General in Kunming, 3 official meetings were arranged.

The first meeting was at 9.30 a.m. with Ms Zhang HongPing, Member of the Communist Party of China Standing Committee, Yunnan Province and Director-General of Department of Publicity, CPC Kunming Committee. The Perak youth was represented by Hang Tuah Din, Ng Kah Choong, Ahmad Ansor, Pervaiz Akhtar, Mohd. Abdul Aziz, Ahmad Taufik, Halim, Tan Wee Tion, Hajjah Faridah and A. Sabramani. Tuan Ruseli Abdul, the Consulate General accompany the delegation. The Secretary General of the Yunnan Youth Federation, Ms Cai JiaYu and the Secretary General of the Kunming Youth Union, Ms Meng Jie were with the Chinese party. Ms Rose Li from Malaysia Consulate office acted as the translator for Perak youth. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes.

The Perak youth delegates later tour the Kunming Youth and Children Activities Centre. Ms Gloria was the translator for the centre. The centre consist of 2 auditoriums, an Olympic size swimming pool, an art gallery and a few training centres. There is a folk dance centre where children were trained. They performed for the delegates; later the delegates joined the children to dance. The delegates also been given a chance to do arts i.e. drawing on a "hu lu". It is a nice experience although it is simple. I have drawn one for my lovely wife! We spent about 2 hours touring the centres.

After lunch, the delegates left to New Asia Sports City. It is a new township developed by the Shinning Star [Xingyao] Group. The Group Chairman is Mr Yan Yu who is the Kunming Youth Union Vice Chairman. The Group use 4 years to complete 4 phases of residential and commercial areas. The Group also built a sports complex which consist of a 20,000 capacity football stadium and indoor games i.e. squash, badminton, ping-pong, futsal, basketball etc. There is a 5,000 capacity multi-purpose hall too. The delegates was told that there was a concert by the latest Chinese idol last Saturday. The delegates tour the sports town by buggy.

Prior to that, there is an introduction of Xingyao Group by Mr Yan Yu and a meeting with the Yunnan Youth Federation Chairman, Mr Lu Ping. We spent the whole evening in this impressive township. Xingyao Group currently in progress of developing the "Little World" project in Tianjin. It is a futuristic project!

Before the delegation left for New Asia Sports City, the Consulate General brought the delegation to Lake Dian. It is the largest lake in Yunnan Province and the water source for Kunming. It is believe that Cheng Ho learned sailing in this lake.

En. Azmi, the Immigration Attache in Consulate General office shown us verbally to a Muslim restaurant nearby Sakura Hotel. Everybody were in the lobby by 7 p.m. We intended to walk to the restaurant as I was told that the restaurant is very near. Frankly, I remembered En. Azmi said that just walk straight turn cross the road, the third lane.

However, Taufik told me that walk straight and turn right. I taught he knows the place as he is confident. We walked about 20 minutes, I felt amused as the route we took was the way Ansor and I walked last night! Rashid told me to keep quite and lets walk. He said he know the way. We walked about an hour, can't find the restaurant. A. Subramani started to crumbled and the rest of the delegates already tired sitting by the roadside.

I asked a few people, they shown me directions. Just followed as they told. Later on we reached the Tuadong Sports Complex which is visible from the hotel. A couple said just walked straight, the restaurant is just across the road. We walked. Later I asked another couple and they leads us to the restaurant as they are going to the same direction. We reached the restaurant at about 9 p.m. Almost 2 hours walk. The restaurant is just across the hotel!

Well, it is a good experience .... walk to see Kunming at night! Deep in my heart, I guessed all the delegates were cursing me!

PERAK YOUTH FRIENDSHIP TOUR - KUNMING, YUNNAN

The Perak Youth Friendship Tour to Kunming, Yunnan was on 16 - 19 August, 2009. These are the dates available as my Muslim friends will be fasting from 22 August onwards. All done! Ticket booked! Lodging done! Visa applied! 25 youth leaders from varies races participated.

The delegation departed from Kompleks Belia dan Sukan Negeri Perak at 1 a.m. on 16 August heading towards KLIA. Our group arrived in KLIA at about 5 a.m. The check in time was 6 a.m. Some delegates took the opportunity to change the local currency to RMB. This will be a shopping trip!

The flight schedule to depart from KLIA at 7.50 a.m. to Bangkok. There are many groups flying with Thai Airways on that day. We have to wait for more than 1 hour to check in although 3 group check-in counters were open.

Flight TG420 left KLIA for Bangkok in Boeing 777 sharp on time. Arrival in Swarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok was at 9.00 a.m. The connecting flight to Kunming was at 10.50 a.m (local time). Since it was about 2 hour transit, the delegation took the opportunity to walk around Swarnabhumi Airport. Goooshhhhh! This is the first time the delegation arrived in this airport. It is a huge airport. We shall check in at about 10.20 a.m. without knowing that the departure gate is far away from our arrival gate. I guess about 3 km!

Ansor and I arrived at the departure gate at about 10 a.m. Upon reaching the departure gate, Hajjah Faridah and her husband, Mejar (R) Amiruddin were checking in. About 30 minutes later, Hang Tuah Din and a few of the delegates arrived. We waited for the others till the last call time. The group arrived earlier had already check into the plane. A few minutes later a few turns up. The flight time was due, 3 passengers were not check in yet. These are from our group. 10 minutes after due time, the 3 musketeers turns up! The flight was delayed by about 20 minutes.

What ashamed to the delegation! However, the captain apologise to all the passengers on the delay which was caused by us.

Flight TG 612 landed in Kunming via Airbus A300 at about 2.40 p.m. The passengers have to filled up a health declaration form issued by the Chinese authority. Passengers are allowed to leave the flight 15 minutes later. There is a huge crowd in the immigration and quarantine counters.

The Consulate General officers already there to welcome us i.e. En. Shamrizal, Vice Consul and En. Zaman.

The delegation arrived to Sakura Hotel at about 4.00 p.m. All delegates agreed to check into the hotel and rest. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. hosted by the Consulate General in Little Duck, a Muslim restaurant. The delegation shall leave to the restaurant by 5.45 p.m.

The delegation went for the famous Dynamic Yunnan show after dinner. The entrance fee is RMB90. The Dynamic Yunnan is a project of the China National Classic Stage Arts. It is a grand primitive song and dance medley. The dancers, choreographer, music and stage are excellence! The show revealed the ethnic songs and dances collide with exquisiteness and novelty of modern art concepts.

SUNGAI SIPUT COMMUNITY SPORTS CARNIVAL

Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong [Jalong Community Sports Club] - KSK Jalong and Kelab Rekreasi Melayu Sungai Siput [Sungai Siput Malays Recreation Club] - KRM have jointly organised the 2009 Sungai Siput Community Sports Carnival on 1 -2 August, 2009. 4 sports were played i.e. football, net ball, sepak takraw and volley ball.

KSK Jalong take charged of net ball, volleyball and sepak takraw while KRM on football. Footbal was played in Padang MPKK, Sungai Buloh on 1 - 2 August. Volley ball was played in Sungai Siput Community Sports Complex on 1 August. Netball and sepak takraw on 2 Aug in Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Siput and Sungai Siput Community Sports Complex respectively.

700 sportsmen and women from varies race age 15 above took part. This carnival only open for those who stay and work in Sungai Siput. Participating teams divided into 2 groups i.e. Jalong and Lintang. The prize money is RM1,000, RM700, RM500 and RM300 for football, netball and volley ball while sepak takraw is RM500, RM300, RM200 and RM100. No entrance fees.

This year a few "orang asli" teams took part in the carnival. Their participating is beyond expectation. This is a truly Malaysian community sports carnival with multi racial participation!

Fitness test

As part of KSK Jalong plan to promote fitness and healthly lifestyle to the community, a fitness test was held with the cooperation from Persatuan Kecergasan Daerah Kuala Kangsar. This is to test an individual fitness comparable with their age. The respond is good. Sportsmen and women and public took the test tough the results were not encouraging.

As the chairman of KSK Jalong and coordinator for this Carnival, I am proud with the commitment shown by the committee members and volunteers. They did an excellent job to made this Carnival a success. The participation from varies races is the prove of the success!

HORNBILL

I have been to Pangkor Island many many times since schooling days. I have camped there numerous times. My familiar places are Pasir Bogak, Teluk Nipah and Teluk Ketapang. These are beautiful sandy beaches. The other beaches are Emerald Bay in Pangkor Laut and Golden Sand Beach (now Pansea).

I notice that there are many HORN BILL in the island during my recent stay in Teluk Nipah. There are also many types of colourful birds too!

An old man in Teluk Nipah says that he started feeding the horn bill 6 years ago. At that time, there are not many horn bill. He feed the bird with local fruits. He himself notice that the number of horn bill has been growing day by day. His feeding time is around 6:30 pm daily. There are around 80 birds waiting to be feed at this time. The bird hang on electric cable and trees.

Although the horn bill in Pangkor is not as beautiful as the Sarawak horn bill but at least there are horn bill in Perak. The other place where horn bill can be seen in Perak is Belum.

The sunset from Teluk Nipah is beautiful too. I have a few pictures of it 20 years back while I was camping here. My camping site has become a seaside store now!

Majlis Belia Daerah Sungai Siput [Sungai Siput district Youth Council] has organised a YOUTH PROFESSIONALISM [Profesionalisme Belia] course in Hotel Langkasuka, Pulau Langkawi 17-19 July 2009. 13 newly elected council members and 30 youth leaders from various youth clubs in Sungai Siput participated in the course. Ms Loh Sok Fong, Abby - the district youth department officer and Razif - pengerak Rakan Muda leads the course.

PERAK STATE INTER-PARLIAMENT FUTSAL CHALLENGE

The Perak State Inter Parliament FUTSAL Challenge was held in Sungai Siput Community Sports Complex [ Kompleks Sukan Komuniti Sungai Siput] on 12 July, 2009. 24 teams took part. The competition hosted by Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department and organised by the Perak State Youth and Sports Department.

As the competition was held in Sungai Siput, Jalong Community Sports Club, Kelab Rekreasi Melayu Sungai Siput, Majlis Belia Daerah Sungai Siput and Kelab Rakan Muda Kawasan Sungai Siput were asked to assist the host.

Jalong Community Sports Club was given the tasks as Food, Medical and Emergency Committee chairman. The Food Committee was headed by Mohamad Taufik bin Mohd. Latif and the Medical and Emergency Committee was headed by Juliana bt Mohamad, a nurse by profession. Both are Jalong Community Sports Club committee member.

The competition end without trouble. Y. Bhg. Dato' Haji Dzulklifly Harun was the guest of honour to official the kick-off. En. Hanif Aliayazak, the Rakan Muda Assistant Director and En. Ahmad Yusup Che Rus, the Kinta District Youth and Sports officer were among the VIP giving away prizes to the winner.

PERAK YOUTH FRIENDSHIP TOUR TO KUNMING, YUNNAN

Upon receiving the good news from the Malaysia Consulate General, my immediate respond is to check on air fare. The generous Malaysia Consulate General agreed to arrange the lodging and transportation for us.

I e-mail to Thai Airways in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia Airline [MAS] - Government and Student Transportation Department. Their respond is prompt. MAS offered RM900 on air-fare and Thai Airways offered RM600 (both ex-taxes). Thai Airways also assist us in the connecting flight from KLIA - Kunming via Bangkok and vice-visa. The transit time in Bangkok is short. We don't mind with the transit time as it save us about RM300 per person. Therefore I suggested to take the Thai Airways.

Arrangement has been made with the China Embassy in Kuala Lumpur for Visa application.

At the same time, I was told that the Consulate General, Tuan Roseli Abdul will be back to his hometown in Gopeng for holidays.

The Perak State Youth Council Chairman - Hang Tuah Din, Secretary - Hasnul, secretariat staff - Rozidi and myself met the Consulate General for lunch in Heritage Hotel on 3 July, 2009. We discuss on the activities and schedule dates. It is a fruitful discussion.

COMMUNITY SPORTS CARNIVAL

The Perak State Executive Councilor in charge of Cultural, Youth and Sports, Y.B. Zainol Padzil had a meeting with all the community sports clubs in Perak on 29 June, 2009. The meeting was held in Impiana Casuarina, Ipoh. Almost all the clubs attended the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to ensure that the 2009 Community Sports Carnival which should be held before fasting month. The Ministry of Youth and Sports had bank-in RM20,000 to each club to carry out the programme.

I attended the meeting as the Chairman of Jalong Community Sports Club [Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong] with secretary, Mohamad Syed Daud bin Syed Isa.

4 compulsory sports were selected this year i.e. football, volley ball, sepak takraw and netball. 2 optional sports are 3 x 3 basketball and women volley ball. These sports are play according to the current rules and regulations of the respective sports. There are not much changes from previous years only the prize money increase to RM1,000 (champion), RM700 (1st. runners up), RM500 and RM300 for third and fourth placing respectively.

Jalong Community Sports Club decided to hold the carnival on 1st and 2nd August. All the compulsory sports will be played. 3 x 3 basket ball, an optional sports will also be hold during the fasting as it is play majority by Chinese.

YOUTH ENTERPRISE

The 'Youth Enterprise" programme was held on 20.6.2009 in Forestry Department Training Centre [Pusat Latihan Perhutanan], Jalan Lintang, Sungai Siput by Sungai Siput District Youth and Sports Department. 112 youth participated. 12 'orang asli' youth, 40 Indian youth and 2 Chinese youth. The remainder are Malay youth.

Effort has been made to promote this programme to the Chinese youth via local Chinese dailies, word of mouth and banners in strategic locations. I was told that 12 Chinese youth registered but only 2 turns up.

The purpose of this program is to promote the Skim Tabung Ekonomi Belia (STEB) - Youth Economic Fund Scheme. This scheme is created specially for the youth to assists them become entrepreneur. 30% cash and 70% for purchasing related stock and items. Successful applicants has to repay the amount given plus certain percentage as administration fees on an agreed period.

Officers from Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia, Ipoh [Malaysia Company Commission], Bank Rakyat and AgroBank were invited. Banks are invited because they are the appointed agents to managed the fund on behalf of Youth and Sports Ministry.

I heard the participants groaning as the terms and conditions by the banks are beyond their effort. This scheme suppose to help them, not to burden them!

Nevertheless, the previous successful applicants should be blamed as they do not repaid the amount given; therefore, the Ministry of Youth and Sports appointed the banks to managed the fund. Bank has it procedures to ensure that the fund is available and manageable.

PERAK STATE YOUTH CONSULTATIVE COUNCIL

The Perak State government and Perak State Youth and Sports Department jointly organised the PERAK STATE YOUTH CONSULTATIVE COUNCIL MEETING today (28.5.2009) in Syuen Hotel, Ipoh.

The Menteri Besar of Perak state officiated the meeting; while the Perak State Executive Councillor in charge of youth and sports chaired the meeting. 10 government agencies relevant to youth were invited together with all the district consultative council chairmen in Perak. All the Perak State Youth council members and the chairman of the respective youth organisation were invited too.

I was appointed to the council since 2002. From my experience the standard and presentation were dropping from bad to worst. It seems that the department held the meeting for the sake of meeting.

Today only 2 papers were presented. Time for debate, discussion and clarification were limited. The sitting arrangement badly done. Notice to council members were issued late. Poor sound system.

I took part in the debate on the poor participation from the non-Malay youth to all youth programmes / activities organised by the youth and sports department or the district youth council. My perception on the query is simple as most of the Chinese youth are busy with their school / college activities. While working adult are tight-up with their respective job schedule and some with family commitment. Difference life-style between Malay and Chinese youth. Migration of rural youth to city due to further studies, job prospect and living.

Most of the 'penggerak Rakan Muda' are Malays and they do not approach the Chinese youth at the same time the Chinese youth and their leader are also not pro-active enough to approach the department officer. As they is no initiative by either side, there is no relationship.

I have play the role as the "bridge" between the youth and sports department with the Chinese youth since the day I was elected to Perak State Youth Council in 1996. I work within my limits. Most of the Chinese youth and their leaders are working within the Chinese community only. That's the main reason why programme organised and dominance by the Chinese; the respond are tremendous while programmes organised by the Malay do not receive respond from the Chinese youth.

The most critical factor is the poor command of Bahasa Malaysia by the Chinese youth. This is the main factor that distract them from joining the programme / activities where Malays are dominance. Difficulties in communication and interaction between Malays and Chinese.

Personally, I feel that one of the party [the youth and sports department officers, 'penggerak Rakan Muda' and the Chinese youth] should initiate the first step; if not the issues prolong. I will continue to play the "bridge" role till I am not wanted by the youth!

Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department has organized a youth camp for those youth whom they have not registered with any youth association yet or those who want to set-up new youth club. This camp was held in Pangkor Island on 22 - 24 May 2009. 40 youths from Sungai Siput participated consist of 10 'orang asli', 10 Indians and 20 Malays.

PERAK YOUTH FRIENDSHIP TOUR - KUNMING, YUNNAN

Perak State Youth Council has decided to visit either Cheingmai, Thailand or Kunming, China. I was appointed the coordinator and organizer for the tour during the Perak State Youth Council EXCO meeting recently. My immediate action is e-mail to the Malaysia Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand and Malaysia Consulate General in Kunming.

I received immediate respond from the Malaysia Embassy in Bangkok. The Second Secretary of the Embassy would assist us, however, they have no contact with youth organizations in Cheingmai. I try to liaise with youth organizations in Cheingmai and Bangkok. The respond are good. A few youth clubs in Cheingmai responded. The Cheingmai Youth Hostel agreed to assist us in transportation and lodging. Few youth organizations has no problem to accept us but they could not arrange other activities with other youth organizations.

The respond from Malaysia Consulate General office came a few weeks later. This may due to the official visit by the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Beijing during this period. The Consulate General office agreed to made arrangement on our behalf with the youth organizations in Kunming, Yunnan.

I am very much appreciate the commitment and generosity of the Consulate General, Tuan Roseli Abdul.

The Yunnan Youth Federation and Kunming Youth Union agreed to accept us as their guest.

I was invited to share my experience with the youth leaders recently. This is a leadership camp organised by Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department. It was held in Chalet Sri Tasek, Pangkalan Hulu on 17 - 19 April, 2009. 43 youth leaders from Sungai Siput participated. It is part of the Youth and Sports Ministry programme to train more youth leaders.

This is my 10th experience sharing with the youth in Perak state. I am glad that I was given the chance to share my experience with them. I was given a chance to talk on LEADERSHIP CONCEPT.

I have presented 5 talks on MALAYSIA YOUTH MOVEMENTS in National Service Camp in 2004(UiTM Sri Iskandar, Perak - 2 series) and 2005 (Kem Terkuk, Sg. Siput - 3 series).

MEETING THE NEW JHEOA OFFICER

I arrived at the Kompleks Transit & Pentadbiran Jabatan Hal Ehwal Orang Asli Daerah at 2:25 pm on 23 Mac, 2009. Nasiri, Batin Kampung Pisang has arranged the meeting with Puan Norizan the new JHEOA officer at 3:00 pm. I have close rapport with the JHEOA officers, previously En. Badrul who has transferred to Kuantan, Pahang and now Pn. Norizan. I have met Pn. Norizan before.

As usual, Puan Norizan is friendly. We chat about previous programmes, suddenly my old pal dropped in to see his boss. He is En. Zakaria whom I met 8 years ago in Kampung Lawai while organising a youth integration programme. Three of us continue to chat about the old days! Then, we started the main purposes why I am there! I have discussed with a few Batin to have some projects that can upgrade their living standard and social economy status. The young Batins are aggressive and pro-active. Hopefully these projects can eradicate their poverty.

I suggested to Pn Norizan that the 'orang asli' should be sent for fishery training especially those staying at the riverside where the water resources available. Nasiri supported my idea and he asked Pn. Norizan to help them. Pn. Norizan agreed. En. Zakaria gave some positive opinions. JHEOA is concern on the sustainability of such project. I told Nasiri that it is the role that a Batin should plays to motivate and counsel their people. Do not always wait for assistance from the government! Nasiri promised he will do his best.

Other matters arise are the agar wood planting and train 'orang asli' youth as guide.

En. Zakaria agreed that agar wood has potential as it fetch high price. The planting of agar wood has become an industry which has started in Gopeng recently. Pn. Norizan will look into it with the Forestry Department. I will seek help from the Primary Industries Ministry for further assistance.

Pn. Norizan said that the training for outdoor guide are not available at this moment as it incurred some cost which JHEOA has not decided yet. Azri, a young 'orang asli' said he has contacted the State Tourism Action Council (MTPN) where there are allocation to promote and develop tourist destination. He will seek further clarification from MTPN if there is outdoor guide training programme. I was told that there are many undergraduates scaling Gunung Yong Yap and Gunung Korbu during semester holiday. These 'orang asli' can be their guide to earn extra income as they known the area well.

Well in my heart, I will try to bring in some foreign climbers via National Camping Association of Malaysia [NCAM] and Malaysia Youth Council which they have worldwide contacts on outdoor lovers. Perak Campers, registered recently can play its role to promote Jalong Tinggi as an outdoor haven.

XPDC SUNGAI SIPUT

Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department has organised the XPDC Sungai Siput on Saturday, 21.3.2009. More than 130 youths taking part. Sungai Siput police personnel and Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong members also take part in this programme. The message carry out to the public through this programme is "Free The Youth From Criminal" [Generasi Belia Bebas Jenayah].

The expedition started from the Sungai Siput Community Sports Complex at about 8:30 a.m. going through the main road towards Jalan Dato' See Khoon Lim to Jalan Jalong then Jalan Lintang towards FELDA Lasah. Stopover in FELDA Lasah continue back to community sports complex via Sungai Siput Hospital and main road. The estimated distance is about 50 km.

I was honoured to flag off the participants with Chief Inspector Ribuan. This is the 1st series of the expedition.

PERAK MB'S ADVISOR VISIT SPORTS COMPLEX

In conjunction with the friendly competition organised by Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong, Y. Bhg. Dato' Chang Ko Youn was invited to visit the sports complex. The Perak State Menteri Besar's Advisor was brief by the Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department officer, En. Khairul.

Dato' Chang was enlightened with the completion of this sports complex which is the only one in Malaysia right now. The RM2.2 million complex was completed in 2008. It were the effort of Y. Bhg. Dato' Seri Samy Velu and Y. Bhg. Dato' Chang Ko Youn whom they wanted the complex to be built in Sungai Siput town where the complex was easily excess. The complex was situated between Happy Garden and Kampung Bahagia i.e. behind Sungai Siput Health Clinic.

KSK JALONG - AADK PERAK FRIENDLY

Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong held a friendly competition with Ajensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan Negeri Perak [Perak State Anti-Drug Agency] on 14-15 Mac, 2009. This event was held in Sungai Siput Sports Complex. 3 games were played i.e. badminton, FUTSAL and sepak takraw.

In conjunction with this event Y. Bhg. Dato' Chang Ko Youn, Perak State Menteri Besar's Advisor was brief on the development of the sports complex by the Sungai Siput Youth and Sports Department.

The success of this friendly competition encourage KSK Jalong to have more friendly competition in future. The friendly competition enhance closer friendships and understanding between the government agencies / departments with the public. It also promote healthy lifestyle.

Personally, I think this is the way to promote mutual understanding between the civil servants and the locals. They can exchange ideas and helping each other to ensure that social ill and problems can be eliminated. This will create a more harmony living.

KOMPLEKS SUKAN KOMUNITI SUNGAI SIPUT

Sungai Siput is lucky to have a minister in the past. As a result Sungai Siput now has a community sports complex. This will not happen if Sungai Siput do not has a minister, SENIOR MINISTER! What a waste that he was not elected in the last general election. Well, lets the people face their own decision.

This complex was built by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in a compound of about 3 acre. It was completed end of 2008. There are 4 badminton courts, 4 sepak takraw courts, 2 futsal courts, 2 net ball courts and an international size futsal court in the complex. The Sungai Siput Youth and Sports office manage the complex.

The Sungai Siput Youth and Sports office is in progress of shifting to this complex. Booking can be made during office hour. The rate for badminton court is quite high compare to other court in Sungai Siput.

Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong has booked for badminton, sepak takraw and futsal on every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 8.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

ADMINISTRATION OFFICE & HEALTH TRANSIT CENTRE

As a minister's constituency there is an advantage to Sungai Siput previously. A complex has been built in Kampung Sentosa to cater the needs of the 'orang asli' in Kuala Kangsar district. This complex comprise of maternity ward, an administration office and a medical centre. The facilities are only for the ‘orang asli’. It will be in operation soon.

MULTI PURPOSE COURT

The Minister of Youth and Sports has decided to build a multi purpose court in each state assembly in 2008. Jalong constituency has the first court built in Kampung Muhibbah. The cost of this court is RM100, 000. This court is open for public free of charge; however, the JKKK or the resident association was appointed to take charge of the facility. As Kampung Muhibbah without either the JKKK or the resident association, the KRT Kampung Muhibbah and Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong were empowered to take charge of the facility.

One court will be built this year. The recommended place is Kampung Jaya Setia as it is a rural area without proper sports facility; furthermore, the previous court should have been build here instead.

I am trying to get another one in Kampung Jalong if there is an extra.

TAKRAW FRIENDLY

A sepak-takraw friendly was held on 30 November, 2008 (Sunday) with Pusat Serenti Perlop in the rehabilitation centre itself. This is the first friendly for this year. 4 'regu' played on that day after exchanging souvenir. Players and officers from both teams was served lunch after that. The centre's inmates came out to support the Pusat Serenti Perlop [Perlop Rehabilitation Centre] team.

Both teams played well in full of sporting spirits and friendly environment. Players from both teams played their best. A football friendly has been arranged. Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong was the host and the friendly will be play in Sungai Siput tentatively Sungai Buloh on 14 December 2008.

This centre was located in Lintang about 15 KM from Sungai Siput town.

KSK JALONG STILL EXIST!

There are a lot talks in town that Kelab Sukan Komuniti (KSK) will be dying off since there is no more yearly allocation from Kementerian Belia dan Sukan [Ministry of Youth and Sports]. It is true, since Y.B. Datuk Seri Azlina transfered to Tourism Ministry, Y.B. Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri do not seems interested on community sports. Kelab Sukan Komuniti [Community Sports Club] is the brainchild of Y.B. Datuk Seri Azlina to promote fitness and racial unity among Malaysians.

Weekend Cycling

RM43,800 was allocated to each KSK nation wide for the past 2 years to organise Liga Sukan Komuniti [Community Sports League]. Each KSK has to choose at least 4 sports from 8 sports as identified by the Ministry. A state level community sports carnival was carried out last year in Sri Iskandar.

As the chairman of KSK Jalong, I do not think that KSK cannot survive without the yearly grant maybe we cannot hold Liga Sukan Komuniti as it is costly. Well lets organised genuine community sports i.e. fitness and sports that can attract many people irrespective of race, age and gender.

KSK Jalong has organised weekly 'senamrobik' and daily sepak takraw since last year. Most of the 'senamrobik' participants are women. Early this year, KSK Jalong has formed the cycling team for weekend ride. No long ago, badminton was introduce for the members. We have plan to start the walking up hill exercise soon. Ambitious plan are in progress currently i.e. cross -country run, fun hockey and hopefully we will get some gym equipments!

More out door activities should be organise i.e. hard and soft outdoor activities. Hard outdoor e.g. jungle trekking, rough cycling and endurance. Soft outdoor e.g. walking up hill, jogging, cycling, aerobic, line dancing, tai chi and light work-out. Different people has different taste. Different age group has different interest.

Not all sports need huge financial support. There are sports that do not requirement much money. KSK Jalong will always keeps its mind close to "Fitness for Healthy Living". Members and public are encourage to take part.

Well, these slogans might help - Have fun with sports, Sports for UNITY, 5 minutes a day keeps the doctor away, friendship through sports etc.

SATUKAN HATI, JATIKAN DIRI!

PUSAT KOMUNITI MUHIBBAH

PUSAT KOMUNITI MUHIBBAH was built in 2002 through the ex-Sungai Siput Member of Parliament's pre-emptive allocation on request from the Chairman, Ng Kah Choong. This building was built for the residence of Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2B, Taman Muhibbah Aman, Taman Muhibbah Jaya and, Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2.

It was often used by Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong, KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah, Persatuan Kebajikan dan Komuniti Muhibbah and Persatuan Sukan Chin Woo, Sungai Siput as meeting venue. Some Chinese youth used it as hip-hop dance training centre at night. Previously it was used to teach Tamil by a volunteer teacher later as spiritual seminar venue but lately it was under utilised.

TADIKA Perpaduan Pusat Aktiviti Sungai Siput near SMJK Shing Chung was in depleted condition. The kindergarten teacher and the Unity Department Officer recently requested to turn this building into TADIKA Perpaduan. The chairman, Ng Kah Choong verbally agreed but need endorsement from the committee members.

A meeting was held on Monday, 16 November 2008 by KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah and agreed to turn it into TADIKA Perpaduan with conditions. TADIKA Perpaduan only used it from Monday-Friday 7am-2pm, bared the electricity and water bill and provide a token sum of RM100 per month as maintenance charge. Usage of the building are fully under the jurisdiction of KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah and Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong.

MAJLIS RAMAH MESRA MUHIBBAH

KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah, KRT Kampung Muhibbah and Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong has jointly organised the Majlis Ramah Mesra Muhibbah on 1 November, 2008 in Majlis Perbandaran Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Siput [Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council, Sungai Siput].

The guest-of-honour was Y. Bhg. Dato' Seri S. Samy Vellu. The event was attended by Y.B. Datuk Ahamad Fakeh Adam - Sungai Siput RT Coordinator, Y.M. Tengku Mazilawati - District Unity and National Integration Department Officer, Pn. Maizatul - District Youth and Sports Officer and Clr. Abas b. Ali - Kuala Kangsar Municipal Councillor. All the KRT chairmen in Sungai Siput, the members of Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong and residents in Kg. Muhibbah Fasa 2B, Taman Muhibbah Aman, Taman Muhibbah Jaya and Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2 attended the event. It is a multi-racial event.

Malays and Indian foods are served as the the event was organised in conjunction with the duo celebration i.e. Hari Raya Aidil Fitri and Deepavali. Such event promote inter racial understanding and interaction. The guest-of-honour and the Unity and National Integration Officer call for more such event to be organise in future to create greater understanding among the multi-racial community.

KRT and KSK are formed to create an united multi-racial Malaysians will do the best to ensure that this dream will turns into reality.

MALAYSIA turns 51

In conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration, Malaysian celebrating the "Merdeka" monthfrom 16 August - 16 September, however due to the Ramadan month the 'Merdeka" month celebration extended to 16 October.

The residents in Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2B, Taman Muhibbah Aman, Taman Muhibbah Jaya and Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2 have organized the 'Merdeka' eve celebration. This is the first ever 'Merdeka' eve celebration celebrated in Sungai Siput. This is also the first time the 'Merdeka' eve was organized by the NGO. The residents from the 4 housing schemes irrespective of age, race and religion came out to celebrate. They are waiting in the field since 10:00 p.m.

The 2 hours culture performance by the locals attracted the audience. There are Malay traditional dance, Indian traditional dance, hip-hop dance by a group of young Chinese boys and the percussion played by Kumpulan Perkusigitra attracts teenagers and children the most.

At 11:45 pm, the committee members from Persatuan Kebajikan dan Komuniti Muhibbah (Muhibbah Community and Welfare Association) and KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah, Sungai Siput (Muhibbah Residential Neighbourhood Watch) getting the audience, performers and children ready. Mr. Cheah Chee Kuan, the advisor for the Association was the guest-of-honour arrived at 11:50 p.m. All set for the celebration.

When the clock strike 12:00 am, the national anthem 'NEGARAKU' was sang following by patriotic songs and a 20 minutes fireworks.

Gunung Cengkei situated in Korbu Reserve located in Jalong Tinggi, Sungai Siput. A group of Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong (Jalong Community Sports Club) members tried to skill this mountain which is about 2,000 meter from sea level on 7 - 8 June, 2008. The team only managed to reach about 1,000 meter due to whether conditions and geography terrain. There are no route to the peak.

The team was guided by 3 'orang asli'. The 'orang asli' said that they can reach the peak and back to their village in a day! Anyway, their 1 hour walk is our 4 hours walk! It is an interesting adventure. Seeing is believing. The rain forest, nature and scenery. There are plans to conquer this mountain in the future. Interested to join us?

Runners on the run!

"Senamrobik" - old, young, men, women are taking part.

In conjunction with the launching of KRT Taman -Taman Muhibbah, Sungai Siput recently, the LARIAN PERPADUAN (Unity Run) was jointly organised by KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah and Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong. This run was open to the residents of Kampung Muhibbah, Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 1, Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2, Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2B, Taman Muhibbah Aman, Taman Muhibbah Jaya and Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2.

There are 160 participants from the 7 housing schemes. The Chairman of KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah and Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong, Ng Kah Choong flagged off the run. It is a trial for Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong to organised a bigger event at year end. This event proved the truly 'muhibbah' participants from all walks of life!

Before the run, a 'senamrobik' session was held. Most of the participants were ladies from the surrounding housing schemes. It is a multi-racial participating. This event was carried out with the co-operation of KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah, KRT Kampung Muhibbah, KRT Taman Tun Sambanthan, Kelab Sukan Komuniti Jalong and Persatuan Kebajikan & Komuniti Muhibbah, Sungai Siput.
