MALAYSIA turns 51


In conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration, Malaysian celebrating the "Merdeka" monthfrom 16 August - 16 September, however due to the Ramadan month the 'Merdeka" month celebration extended to 16 October.

The residents in Kampung Muhibbah Fasa 2B, Taman Muhibbah Aman, Taman Muhibbah Jaya and Taman Muhibbah Jaya 2 have organized the 'Merdeka' eve celebration. This is the first ever 'Merdeka' eve celebration celebrated in Sungai Siput. This is also the first time the 'Merdeka' eve was organized by the NGO. The residents from the 4 housing schemes irrespective of age, race and religion came out to celebrate. They are waiting in the field since 10:00 p.m.

The 2 hours culture performance by the locals attracted the audience. There are Malay traditional dance, Indian traditional dance, hip-hop dance by a group of young Chinese boys and the percussion played by Kumpulan Perkusigitra attracts teenagers and children the most.

At 11:45 pm, the committee members from Persatuan Kebajikan dan Komuniti Muhibbah (Muhibbah Community and Welfare Association) and KRT Taman-Taman Muhibbah, Sungai Siput (Muhibbah Residential Neighbourhood Watch) getting the audience, performers and children ready. Mr. Cheah Chee Kuan, the advisor for the Association was the guest-of-honour arrived at 11:50 p.m. All set for the celebration.

When the clock strike 12:00 am, the national anthem 'NEGARAKU' was sang following by patriotic songs and a 20 minutes fireworks.

These proved that such celebration can strenghten unity among the neighbourhood and better interaction among the residents leads to the creation of better sense of belonging. This is vital to create harmony society.
